Contractor marketing & lead generation

Contractor lead generation that hands you exclusive leads, yours to keep, never resold.

You could buy shared leads today and race four other companies to the same homeowner. Or you could own the machine that makes exclusive leads: rankings, Google Local Services Ads, PPC, reviews, and instant follow-up, built and run for you, then handed over by month 6. No more renting shared leads.

★★★★★ 4.8 rating on Google

Anybody will sell you a lead today. Almost nobody shows you the math.

Buying contractor leads takes four minutes and a card. What no pricing page shows you is the rest of the chain: who else got the same name, how few of them ever reach a calendar, and what a signed job actually cost. Contractor lead generation is that whole chain.

We build the machine that makes the leads instead: rankings, Local Services Ads, a site that converts, a review wall, and instant follow-up on every lead. We run it, then hand you the keys. What comes out has one buyer, and that is you.

Founder, Contractor Fast Lane

In 2015 I started Four28 Marketing with one goal: give local businesses an unfair advantage in their market.

Eleven years and 250+ businesses later, one pattern kept jumping out. Home services was the one place I could run the same playbook and watch it actually work. Not a slide in a quarterly review, real jobs on a real calendar. I’d rather move the needle for a small business than a Fortune 500 any day.

So we took everything we had built over a decade and pointed all of it at one thing.

Why contractor companies stay stuck

Buying leads is easy. Making money on them is not.

Four things happen to almost every contractor who buys leads for a living. None of them show up on the pricing page.

One lead, sold to five companies

Marketplaces resell the same homeowner to four or five contractors at once. You are not buying a lead. You are buying a spot in a footrace.

Close rates of 3 to 8 percent

At $30 to $150 a lead and a 3 to 8 percent close, one booked job can carry $600 to $2,000 in lead fees before a truck ever rolls.

Every bid starts a price war

The homeowner never asked for five bids, but now they have them. The conversation starts at who is cheapest, and your margin pays for the introduction.

The platform owns your customer

The profile, the reviews, and the repeat work all build the marketplace's asset, not yours. Next season it will happily sell your old customer to your competitor.

“I've worked with plenty of agencies that promise the world and deliver a folder full of vanity metrics. Contractor Fast Lane is different. They feel like an extension of our team and take the time to understand our industry instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all template. Since partnering with them we have seen a significant increase in qualified leads and a real boost in ROI, and our cost per acquisition has dropped.”

My husband and I run a local business, and when it came time to grow we knew we needed experts. Contractor Fast Lane came highly recommended from a friend who raved about them. They are crazy good at taking complicated, nerdy stuff and making it make sense, and they were always communicating so I never once wondered what was going on. Their SEO work for our market has been a game changer, and we have seen a tangible increase in our lead volume.

It was clear they had done extensive research on our industry before we ever sat down. We spoke to other agencies, but there was a distinct difference. What really stood out was their proven track record getting clients top rankings on Google. We needed a site built the right way, optimized and built to convert, and that is exactly what they delivered. Honestly, it has been one of the best investments we have made for our business.

The contractor lead trap

Stop renting contractor leads.
Own the system that makes them.

Buying contractor leads is renting demand: the day you stop paying, it vanishes. Owning your lead generation is an asset that compounds and cannot be resold to anyone.

Renting leads

Pay forever. Own nothing.

Every lead arrives pre-shopped, costs more than the last, and stops the day the card declines.

Owning the engine

Build once. Compound for years.

Exclusive leads flow from assets with your name on them, at a cost per job that falls as the engine compounds, yours by month 6.

What a contractor lead actually costs in 2026

The sticker price is the least interesting number here. What a lead really costs is decided by how it is billed, who else was sold it, and the two conversion rates that come after.

Cost per click$5.31The cheapest click of the 16 home service categories LocaliQ measured. Traffic is not what makes contractor leads expensive.
Clicks per lead38Those campaigns convert at 2.61%, the lowest rate in the study, against 7.33% across all 16 categories. That is how a cheap click becomes a $166 lead.
Pay per lead vs pay per click$53 vs $104Average charged Local Services Ads lead against blended Google Ads cost per lead. Same 888 contractors, same month, two billing models.
What a customer costs by channel$233 vs $472Cost per paying customer on those same two channels, once booking and closing are counted. The billing model roughly halves it.
Companies sold the same leadUp to 5Angi's help center: each project request is matched with no more than five pros, and you are billed whether or not you open the lead.
Fees before your first lead$300 to $360Annual membership runs about $300 on HomeAdvisor and about $360 for Porch's vetted network, on top of every per-lead charge.
Every number above is a price you pay again next month, set by whoever else is bidding on the same homeowners. None of it accrues to you. The alternative is not a cheaper lead, it is a different balance sheet: ranked pages, a review wall and a booking system that produce leads with no per-lead charge attached. Your customers, data, reviews and content are yours from day one. The website itself is fully yours at month 6.

Sources: cost per click, conversion rate and cost per lead from LocaliQ's home services search advertising benchmarks (3,211 US search campaigns, April 2024 to March 2025), where Construction & Contractors general posts the lowest cost per click of the 16 categories at $5.31 and the lowest conversion rate at 2.61%, producing a $165.67 cost per lead, second only to Roofing & Gutters at $228.15, against a $90.92 all-category average. Clicks per lead is arithmetic on that published conversion rate. Local Services Ads and Google Ads cost per lead and cost per paying customer from SearchLight Digital's LSA benchmark (888 contractors, 1,774 campaigns, 126,650 leads, $6.72M in spend, February 2026), a blended multi-trade contractor figure rather than any single trade. Lead sharing and billing terms quoted from Angi's pro help center. Membership and per-lead price ranges from ServiceTitan. Last reviewed July 2026.

The mechanics behind a contractor lead

The lead is the easy part. The math behind it is the business.

Six mechanics decide what demand costs you: how a click becomes a lead, who else got it, the two conversions that follow, how fast you answer, and whether you can prove which channel produced the job.

1The click is cheap. The lead is not.

Contractor search clicks average $5.31, the lowest of 16 home service categories LocaliQ measured. Those same campaigns convert at 2.61%, also the lowest, so it takes about 38 clicks to make one lead. Conversion is the lever, not the bid.

2You pay for the introduction, not the job

Angi's own help center says a project request is matched with up to five pros, and you are billed once you and the homeowner both show interest, whether or not you open it. The fee buys a place in a queue. What happens next is on you.

3Two conversions decide the real price

A lead price becomes a job price only after two rates: how many leads book, and how many of those close. On published Local Services Ads data, a $53 lead works out to $233 per customer. Track both, or you are managing the smallest number.

4Speed is a multiplier you can measure

In a study of 15,000 leads and over 100,000 call attempts, the odds of qualifying one fell fourfold when the reply slipped from five minutes to ten. Not an hour. Ten minutes. So the engine answers in seconds and offers the next open slot.

5Every lead tagged to what produced it

A tracked number per channel, a source stamped on every form, one CRM holding all of it against the booked job. You end up ranking channels by revenue instead of by lead count, and the two orders are almost never the same.

6A lead you make has no invoice on it

A purchased lead is a rental: the fee buys one name, once. A ranked page, a review wall and a site that converts keep producing with no per-lead charge, so your blended cost per lead drops as more of the flow comes from what you own.

What does a booked job cost you now?

Most owners can quote a cost per lead and not a cost per booked job. Fifteen minutes on a discovery call tells you whether this fits and whether your trade is still unclaimed.

This is the machine that makes exclusive contractor leads. Every piece is built, connected, and run under one roof, and every piece ends up yours.

Contractor SEO & Google Maps

The map pack and page-one rankings are the highest-intent lead source in the trades: homeowners with a problem, searching right now, calling the companies they see. We put you there and keep you there.

Google Local Services Ads

Pay-per-lead placement above everything else on the page, with the Google Verified badge. The calls come straight to you, junk leads get disputed, and nobody else is sold your homeowner.

Contractor PPC & paid social

Paid campaigns tuned to your trade's highest-margin jobs and seasons, aimed at the weeks your schedule actually has room instead of the weeks your crews are already buried.

A contractor website built to convert

Marketplace profiles convert shoppers into shared leads. Your own fast, proof-loaded site converts them into exclusive ones, with instant booking, financing, and click-to-call built in.

Review & reputation engine

A homeowner who reads 300 five-star reviews does not need four more bids. Automated requests after every job build the review wall that ends comparison shopping.

Speed-to-lead & CRM follow-up

The first company to respond usually wins the job. Every lead gets an instant text, an automated follow-up sequence, and a slot on your calendar before a competitor calls back.

Made for owners done buying their pipeline.

Our best-fit contracting business

You have the crews. You need demand nobody can resell.

Contractor Fast Lane is built for established contractors doing roughly $500K to $10M and up per year that are done funding the marketplaces. Roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, remodeling, 25 industries in all. If your crews could handle more work tomorrow, we build the contractor lead generation engine that keeps them booked, and we lock your trade in your market so no competitor can ever buy the same system.

Contractors stuck on lead marketplacesYou close enough shared leads to survive, but the math gets worse every quarter.

High-ticket trades that need exclusivityRoofing, HVAC, solar, remodeling: one resold lead means a price war on a five-figure job.

Companies with capacity to growYour bottleneck is not crews or trucks. It is a steady flow of qualified, exclusive demand.

One company per trade, per marketWe work with a single company per trade in each service area. Yours locks when you start.

The long game

Your contractor engine gets stronger every month it runs.

A lead you buy is spent the second the call ends. A lead your engine makes leaves something behind: another ranked page, another review, another path that works again next month. Same budget, one of them stacks, and the share you are not paying for keeps growing.

Launch Year 1 Year 3
The groundwork we lay here…
…is why it picks up steam here.
Illustrative shape, not a projection.

The cheapest lead you will ever get is the second one from a page you already built. That is the whole difference between buying leads and making them.

Early onWe build the engine and switch it on. You feel some of it right away. Most of it is foundation you will feel later.
As it maturesEvery month stacks on the last. Your rankings, reviews and repeat customers start feeding each other instead of resetting.
The long runGrowth that took real work to build is not easily taken away. Rented demand disappears the month you stop paying for it.

A note from the founder

Why we built this.

“I kept watching the same thing happen: a contractor doing five-star work, running circles around the shop down the street, and still losing to them. Not because the other guy was better. Because he had a system bringing him customers, and they didn't.

So we built the system. Then we packaged the whole thing, done for you, for local service businesses ready to scale. We keep your calendar full, you run the jobs, and it is all in your name, right down to the website becoming yours at month 6.

No contracts, no lock-ins. We earn it every month. And we only take one company per market, so if yours is still open, I'd love to meet you.”

Contractor marketing FAQs

Real numbers on buying contractor leads.

How much do contractor leads cost?
It depends how you buy them. Shared marketplace leads run $15 to $100 each, with an annual fee under some of them. Local Services Ads averaged $53 per charged lead in February 2026. Paid search is the odd one: contractor clicks are the cheapest in the trades at $5.31, but those campaigns convert at 2.61%, the worst of 16 home service categories, so the lead lands at $166.
What is the difference between exclusive and shared contractor leads?
A shared lead goes to several companies at once. Angi's help center says each project request is matched with up to five pros, and you are charged as soon as you and the homeowner both show interest, whether or not you open it. An exclusive lead has one buyer, so your close rate stops depending on how fast four other trucks move. Leads this engine makes come from assets in your name and are never resold.
Is pay per lead or pay per click better for contractor leads?
Two different bets. Pay per lead, like Google Local Services Ads, only bills when a homeowner actually contacts you: $53 per charged lead on average in February 2026. Pay per click bills for the visit whether or not anyone raises a hand, and ran $104 blended in the same dataset. Clicks are the better deal when your site converts and a slow bleed when it does not.
How do lead marketplaces actually charge contractors?
Three layers, and only the first is advertised. A per-lead fee, roughly $15 to $100 on Angi and $10 to $100 on Thumbtack. Often a membership underneath: about $300 a year on HomeAdvisor, about $360 for Porch's vetted network. Then a monthly spend minimum you commit to. You pay all three win or lose. See how owning it works →
How many leads does it take to book one job?
Two rates decide it: how many leads book, and how many booked jobs close. On published Local Services Ads data 43.9% of paid leads became a booked appointment, and cost per paying customer landed at $233 against a $53 lead. Pay-per-click leads in the same dataset booked at 41.7% and cost $472 per customer. Multiply your own two rates before you judge any channel on its lead price.
How fast do I have to call a new lead back?
Faster than feels reasonable. In a study of 15,000 leads and over 100,000 call attempts, the odds of qualifying one fell fourfold when the reply slipped from five minutes to ten. Nobody hits that from a roof or under a house, so the engine does it: an instant text, the next open slot offered, and follow-up until they book or say no.
How do I stop paying for junk leads?
Three moves, in order. Filter at intake, so a few qualifying questions on the form and in the first text separate a real project from a price check before a truck rolls. Dispute what you can, because Local Services Ads lets you flag wrong-service and out-of-area leads for credit and it only pays if someone works it weekly. Then cut the source: a lead tagged to its channel is a lead you can stop buying.
How do I know which channel actually produced the job?
You track it or you guess. Each channel gets its own tracked number, every form stamps its source, and it all lands in one CRM against the booked job and the invoice. Then you rank channels by revenue instead of lead count, and the two orders are rarely the same. Your customers, your data and your reviews are yours from day one; the website itself is fully yours at month 6. Book a 15-minute discovery call →
